About Cambridge Visual Networks

Cambridge Visual Networks (often abbreviated to CamVine) creates new ways of deploying and interacting with visual information.

We are a small and highly agile privately-owned company based in Cambridge, UK. The team has a good track record in the creation of innovative products and has been involved in the founding of several other successful high-technology companies.

The Team

Dr Quentin Stafford-Fraser is a co-founder and former CEO and Chief Scientist of DisplayLink, and has also co-founded other ventures including Ndiyo and Exbiblio B.V, before setting up Cambridge Visual Networks at the start of 2007. Quentin was one of the inventors of the webcam, and a developer of the VNC software now found on many millions of machines worldwide. He has held research posts at Cambridge University, Xerox, Olivetti & AT&T, and has a long-held interest in visual-based interaction between humans and machines.

Dr Michael Dales has over eight years of experience in R&D, both in industry and academia, focusing primarily on systems and networking. Prior to joining CamVine, Michael was a Senior Researcher at the Intel Research lab in Cambridge, UK, working predominantly on novel high speed optical network designs as part of a large interdisciplinary research project. Before that he worked on distributed Internet measurement systems as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory.

Professor John Naughton is an academic, a journalist and a consultant on technology and technology policy to both governments and business. With a background in Systems Engineering, he is Professor of the Public Understanding of Technology at the Open University and a Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge. He is the author of A Brief History of the Future and writes the weekly ‘Networker’ column in the London Observer.

Henry Happel was a founding partner of Mundt MacGregor LLP, a Seattle, Washington law firm, where he practiced corporate and commercial law from 1976 until 2001. Since leaving Mundt MacGregor, Henry has served and on the board of various technology companies including Advanced Robotic Vehicles, Inc., Exbiblio and DisplayLink. Henry received a B.A. in Economics from Yale University in 1967 and a law degree from Stanford University in 1970.

John Martyn is a chartered accountant and business advisor who has worked in a variety of companies in the UK and abroad, from small high-technology startups to larger multinationals. Amongst other posts, John has been the CFO of Geneva Technology, of Convergys (EMEA), and of DisplayLink.

Sarah McKeon has a background as an editor and product manager in online publishing with Analysys Research and ProQuest in Cambridge. More recently she has worked in project management in the education and hi-tech arena.

Thomas Hunger was studying theoretical physics before he joined CamVine. He has also been a contributor to many important projects in the Linux community.
