Hardware management

Most of the time, your interaction with the CODA system will be to do with content and displays, and we hope you won't need to think too much about the hardware that connects them together! But when you do want to know more, the Hardware Management pane lets you see the status of your CODA hardware, and to describe how it is distributed across your organisation.

Managing your sites

As mentioned in the Overview earlier, your organisation can have multiple sites. They might be offices in different cities, or different faculties in a university. Each site will typically have its own local-area network, with several CODA-connected screens and (if using CODAclassic) one or more CODAboxes.

Your sites are shown in the left-hand column of the top pane and you can create, delete and rename them using the buttons at the bottom of the column. You can specify that displays are at a particular site by dragging them there in the same way that you dragged sources onto playlists earlier.

You can double-click a display's icon to configure certain aspects such as its resolution, or whether it is in portrait mode and so the content should be rotated.

Checking the status of your CODA system

The CODA system is designed such that you should just plug in the hardware, connect it to your network, which is in turn connected to the Internet, turn it on, and that's it. However, at times some things might go wrong, and any issues should be visible in this pane. Here we show you the various states for your CODApods, CODAlinks and CODAboxes are.

Note that due to the limitations in giving real time information into web browsers, the state of the hardware icons will not update until the coda web page is refreshed. Some operations, such as updating a CODApod, will take a few minutes to complete, and any change in state will not happen until the process is complete.

Display Status

The CODApod or CODAlink, which you connect to your displays, will be shown in one of the following three states:

Icon Indicated state
The CODApod/CODAlink is operating normally and showing a source.
The CODApod/CODAlink is operating normally but has been turned off either using the 'blank' feature or it is showing a Screen Schedule with no content schedule for display currently.
The CODApod/CODAlink can not currently be seen from the CODA website, and any operations you carry out will not take effect until the issue is resolved.

When a CODApod is show as not being reachable, it generally means either the CODApod is powered off, or it cannot connect to the Internet. When a CODAlink is shown as not being reachable, there are two potential reasons. Firstly, the CODAlink has become disconnected from the system, but the rest of the system is fine, or the entire system is unreachable from the CODA web server. The way to work out which of these two modes your system is in is by checking on the CODAbox status, as described below; if the CODAbox is showing as active then the CODAlink itself should be investigated, and if the CODAbox is shown as missing then the problem could be general network connectivity between the CODAbox and the rest of the world.

To power off a screen, simply select the screen in the Content Assignment panel on the website and click the BLANK button.

CODAbox Status

You may need to click the 'Show CODAboxes' link at the bottom of the pane to see CODAbox information.

The CODAboxes which controls your CODAlinks, will be shown in one of the following three states:

Icon Indicated state
The CODAbox is operating normally
The CODAbox is operating normally, and there is a software update available for your CODAbox
The CODAbox can not currently be seen from the CODA website, and any operations you carry out will not take effect until the issue is rectified.
